Skin boosters are revitalising, hydrating dermal fillers that work to plump the skin, improving its appearance and texture – while slowing down the signs of premature ageing – from within. They are part of the dermal filler ‘family’ of products, but unlike other dermal fillers, skin boosters do not shape or contour the facial structure; they treat the upper layer of the face, neck or hands for hydration and plumping. Skin boosting injections are available at both our Brisbane and Ipswich clinics.

The area is numbed using a topical anaesthetic cream. Micro-injections of hyaluronic acid are injected just below the skin’s surface. This is how they differ to other type of dermal fillers; instead of being injected deeper underneath the surface, ligaments, fat pads or muscles to enhance, they are injected into the skin to hydrate and improve overall skin integrity. The product itself is also slightly different. It’s a less complex combination that only includes the hyaluronic acid (water) of dermal filler without the binding compound that provides volume, fullness and lift. When injecting into the skin, the filler is formulated with antioxidants and vitamins causing new collagen and elastin to be produced that result in healthy-looking, glowing and plump skin.
Feel confident in your choices, supported by gold standard procedure care
Suitability for skin boosting injections will be determined during a consultation with your injector, taking into account your current skin texture and quality, underlying facial structure and, most importantly, your goals. Skin boosters are usually most suitable for patients with mild skin laxity and good underlying skin support. They are not going to achieve satisfying, visible results for people with advanced skin ageing on their own, however they can be used in conjunction with other treatment modalities and products to complete a rejuvenation process that might include facelift procedure, laser and deeper dermal fillers.
Like all filler treatments, skin boosters carry risks. Bruising and swelling is to be expected, as there are lots of tiny vessels in the layer of the face where the injecting is done, and because they are so small, they are not always visible to the eye, so they are difficult to avoid when injecting. Therefore we do not recommend this treatment in the days prior to a special event. More serious potential complications such as vascular occlusions are rare in the layer of the face that these injections are performed, but not impossible. Potential risks and complications – as well as after care – is provided in detail to all patients, both prior to the treatment and afterwards, to ensure they are making an informed decision.
The results of a single treatment is noticeable instantly and continues to improve in the weeks following treatment, as the filler settles. Depending on the type of skin booster used, they can last anywhere from 3 to 18 months.

How skin boosters work:
Like all fillers, skin boosters lift, enhance and restore volume; but they specifically do this just under the skin, not further below the dermis, fat or muscles, like other fillers.
