CHEMICAL PEELS

Customised peels that combine the best peeling agents for acne, sun damage, pigmentation and fine lines. Visible results, less discomfort and downtime.

Chemical Peels

Skin peels are an effective therapeutic tool for skin improvement, and our clinics in South Brisbane and Ipswich customise our peel formulations, for targeted treatment of multiple skin concerns, including fine lines, wrinkles, acne, hyperpigmentation and uneven texture.

Our peel combinations include the Synergie Modified Jessner peel, which consists of a strategic combination of actives such as lactic acid, salicylic acid and resorcinol. These work together to penetrate the skin, promote renewal and reveal a smoother, healthier complexion by exfoliating the skin and stimulating with skin cell turnover.

How frequently do I need a skin peel treatment?

This will depend on your skin type and concern. Prior to commencing a skin peel program, we recommend booking a complimentary consultation with a clinician at the Sharp Clinic, to assess your skin and discuss your medical history. We will also explore your skin goals, to determine if the Synergie Modified Jessner Peel, or another combination, is the right choice for you. After your skin assessment, we will create a bespoke treatment plan for you.

Peels achieve best results when they are undertaken as part of a treatment plan. Our plans focus on achieving the skin results you want in the short term, and then creating a medium-to-long term plan for maintaining them. In the Queensland sun, this is especially important due to ongoing UV exposure levels during the year, which make maintenance of pigmentation and premature ageing especially relevant to your individual skin strategy. In this way, our treatment plans focus on maintenance, rather than waiting until the skin condition is very poor to intervene in pigmentation, congestion and acne development.

  • This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
Once we have confirmed that your skin is suitable for a peel treatment, we begin the peel process by strengthening and preparing the skin for the treatment, to ensure it is in good health. This is integral to achieving optimal results and minimising risks.

How much do peels cost?

Our peels are delivered as stand alone treatments or alongside other combined treatments, for powerful results, such as HydraFacial – or as part of a Fraxel laser program. Peels start at $130 and the treatment can take 30-60 minutes in duration.

What is a peel recovery like?

The types of peels offered at the Sharp Clinics involve low downtime. Most patients find their skin is red or flushed-looking after the treatment, which normally subsides in the hours or days following the treatment depending on the individual intensity used to achieve the desired result. This is followed by 2-3 days of flaky skin. Most patients do not find they need to take time off work following a peel. You might find that the shedding/flaking makes it difficult to wear makeup in the days immediately following treatment, so if this is something you normally do, we recommend timing your treatment around this.

Prior to a peel we recommend:

R
Avoid using any harsh exfoliants, retinoids, or products containing alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) for at least one week. These products can sensitize the skin and increase the risk of adverse reactions during the treatment.
R
Maintaining well-hydrated skin is essential. Drink plenty of water and use a moisturiser suitable for your skin type in the days leading up to the peel (talk to us if you need suggestions based on your level of skin hydration/oiliness). Well-hydrated skin will help promote healing and minimise dryness or flaking afterward.
R
Limit sun exposure and protect your skin from the sun with SPF. This is crucial, both before and after the peel. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen such as Uber Zinc or Dr Sharp SPF 50+, and limit sun exposure to prevent further damage and ensure the best possible outcome.
R
Avoid hot water directly on your face during winter. Lukewarm water is better.

Cleanse your skin gently with a mild, non-abrasive cleanser such as:

  • Aspect Platinum Hydrating Cream Cleanser
  • Synergie Bio Cleanse
  • Synergie Ultra Cleanse

To remove any dirt, oil, or makeup. Avoid harsh scrubbing or exfoliation that can irritate the skin.

The best way to prepare for a Synergie Jessner peel is by getting started an homecare program that uses evidence-based skincare principles. We often use the Synergie Skin Brightening kit, as it is a cost effective way to access a simple at-home program containing skin essentials and pigmentation inhibitors.

Are peels suitable for all skin types?

No, and this is why our patients undergo a comprehensive consultation and skin assessment prior to commencing a peel. Peels may not be suitable for you in a number of circumstances:

  • EOur peels are best suited for a Fitzpatrick 1-3 and not suitable for darker skin types and especially those who have melasma as it may exacerbate or make their melasma worse. Our clinics offer other treatments that will be more suitable for darker skin types.
  • EWomen who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • ERecent sunburn or active herpes outbreak
  • EOpen wounds or skin infections
  • EAllergies or sensitivities: individuals with known allergies or sensitivities to any of the ingredients used in the Synergie Modified Jessner Peel
  • ECertain active skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, or dermatitis, may make you ineligible for the Synergie Modified Jessner Peel. These conditions can be exacerbated by the peel’s active ingredients, leading to increased inflammation, irritation, or discomfort.
  • EIf a patient has been currently using Accutane (isotretinoin) or has used it within the past six months, or if you are using prescription-strength retinoids, it is not recommended to undergo a Synergie Modified Jessner Peel. These medications can increase skin sensitivity, making it more prone to adverse reactions from the peel.
All treatments carry risks and these are explained in detail prior to undergoing the treatment.
