Dr David Sharp is a Specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon known for his expertise in breast surgery and his natural looking results

Dr Sharp understands that for many women, breast shape and size is intrinsically connected to their sense of femininity and body confidence - and appreciates the levity of a breast procedure for those who have considered it for many years before finally venturing down the path of surgery.

It’s normal to feel both nervous, and an excited sense of anticipation, when planning your breast surgery. Dr Sharp will take the time to ensure you have as many consultations as you require, and will customise your treatment to suit your body and expectations – and address any concerns you may have.

What is breast lift surgery?

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a procedure that raises, firms and reshapes the breasts. Excess skin is removed to tighten the surrounding tissue and to reshape and support the new breast contour.

For women with breast ptosis - whereby the nipple sits below the inframammary fold, or points down - a mastopexy results in the nipple sitting higher on the breast.

The internal breast tissue is usually reshaped as well. Sometimes the areola (the darker skin around the nipple) becomes enlarged over time, and a breast lift will reduce this too.

What is breast augmentation surgery?

Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, can be a cosmetic procedure - or a reconstructive procedure, in the case of breast reconstruction surgery after mastectomy or trauma.

The procedure involves implants - usually silicone - being inserted beneath the breast muscle, or sometimes, above the muscle. The objective of this procedure is to increase the size of your breasts, or restore breast volume that has been lost after weight reduction or pregnancy.

Combining implants and a lift

Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing, and the force of gravity take their toll on a woman’s breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and volume and begin to sag.

A breast lift cannot increase the size of your breasts or replace volume at the top, and a breast augmentation cannot correct severely drooping breasts. If you want your breasts to be raised and increased in volume, a breast augmentation and lift procedure can be performed in conjunction.

6 Weeks post op breast augmentation and I couldn't be happier! Not too big, not too small, a really super natural result and a great shape. My 50 year old body is finally in proportion. If I'd known how relatively pain free and easy it was going to be I'd have done it years ago. There was nothing that Dr Sharp didn't cover in my pre op consultations and I went into surgery feeling totally at ease. David is a kind, compassionate and incredibly funny person. His relaxed manner and wicked sense of humour is refreshing and not at all what I expected. You come away feeling like you've spent time chatting with a friend. Thank you David! I am so happy with the result.
